My name is Amy. I am a stay at home mother of one, my two year old daughter, Layla (aka Little Bean). I have always been a very domestic person and have loved creating things.
I grew up mostly in the Middle East (Saudi Arabia and Oman) and was a world traveler as a child. Ironically, my mother describes me as a homebody. I have lived several places throughout the US as well and my family finally settled in Washington state when I was 12 years old. I went to Washington State University, got my BS in Psychology and went on to graduate school in Counseling Psychology at Pacific University. Short of finishing my degree there, as Oprah would say, I had an "a-ha" moment. I quickly applied to culinary school at Western Culinary Institute and dropped out of grad school (the two schools were literally across the street from eachother downtown Portland - weird, right?). So, I pursued a degree in Patisserie and Baking and graduated in the Spring of 2005. My husband's career took us back to Eastern Washington where I worked at the Happy Cake Co. for several years.
As many of you have done, I made the decision to stay at home with my daughter. This was definitely the best decision for us, but it left me wanting more. I do a few cakes here and there, but nothing steady. So, I started knitting, sewing, cooking, and reading...a lot. Oh, and I decorate my house over and over and over again. I have a closet that my husband calls the "throw pillow graveyard." And I have spent more money on paint in the past year than I care to mention. All of this has led me to this point and to create the Little Bean Workshop.
I am still learning and constantly trying to improve the things I do. Thanks so much for following along.
Amy
